More about our Treatment for Undefined Jaw
The jaw line can begin to sag or change as we age. In men and women, jowls may begin to appear along the jawline. This loss of definition is called an undefined jaw. Dr. Croland uses a special technique called the Y-Lift procedure to smooth and lift the jawline in his patients, eliminating the appearance of jowls. The Y-Lift procedure involves injecting dermal fillers into the face to add volume.
The Y LIFT lifts the whole face because the fillers are wedged in between the immovable bone and solid muscle, making the fillers become one with the muscle and the bone. Because of this, the fillers don’t get displaced downwards. The skin and soft tissue of the face are strongly lifted and further sagging of the face is prevented.
The Y Lift is an effective, innovative technique involving the injection of dermal fillers between the facial bones and solid muscles. This means that the fillers become one with the bones and muscles of the face rather than being placed above the muscle just under the surface of the skin, where there is no solid structure for them to bond with. Over time, fillers can actually weigh down on the skin and sag together with the sagging face. However, the Y Lift is an improved way of using facial fillers for a lasting effect.
It is called a Y LIft because ideal and youthful facial contours are shaped like the letter Y . The Y shape spans from the eye and cheekbone region and points down to the chin and jawline of the face. As we age, the arms of the Y shape widen as the face begins to lose volume and deflate. We lose volume in our cheeks, which begin to sag into jowls. The chin becomes less defined. By rebuilding structure to the face in the shape of a Y, the undefined jaw regains its shape and smoothness.
