Treating the Cause, Not Just the Symptom

Erectile dysfunction affects an estimated 30 million men in the United States and becomes increasingly prevalent with age — yet it remains among the most underreported and undertreated conditions in men’s health. Most men who seek treatment are offered an oral PDE5 inhibitor and sent home. Many respond well. Many do not — or find that medication becomes less effective over time, or prefer not to depend on a pill for every sexual encounter.

The treatments available at Learn2Renew work differently. Rather than managing the symptom of poor erectile function, shockwave therapy and PRP address the underlying vascular and tissue pathology — stimulating new blood vessel formation, improving penile blood flow, and regenerating erectile tissue — with the goal of restoring natural function rather than pharmacologically inducing it.

Dr. Croland has been among the first physicians in the Charlotte region to offer regenerative ED treatments, and brings the same clinical depth to men’s sexual wellness that characterizes his approach to aesthetic and hormonal care: individualized, evidence-informed, and focused on meaningful outcomes.

Low-Intensity Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

RenewWave is Learn2Renew’s shockwave therapy protocol for erectile dysfunction, using low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LI-ESWT) to address the vascular and tissue causes of ED at their source. Acoustic shockwaves break down micro-plaque formations in penile blood vessels, stimulate the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), and promote regeneration of erectile tissue — resulting in improved blood flow, stronger and more sustainable erections, and enhanced sensitivity through the body’s own healing mechanisms.

Dr. Croland uses two complementary shockwave modalities, allowing treatment depth and energy delivery to be tailored to each patient’s anatomy and pathology:

Storz Duolith Focused Shockwave

Concentrates energy precisely in deeper penile tissue, maximizing the angiogenic and regenerative response at the target level. Preferred for patients with significant vascular pathology.

Zimmer Enpuls Radial Pressure Wave

Delivers energy across a broader tissue area, effective for surface and mid-depth vascular remodeling. Complementary to focused shockwave in a combined protocol.

Who is a good candidate?

Men with mild to moderate vasculogenic ED are the strongest candidates. More advanced pathology — long-standing diabetes, significant atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease — presents greater challenges and may require a combined treatment approach. Men with normal erectile function who want enhanced performance are also appropriate candidates. A thorough medical evaluation determines candidacy and sets realistic expectations.

What RenewWave can help with

Inability to achieve or maintain erections
Erections too soft or brief for satisfactory intercourse
ED associated with diabetes or cardiovascular disease
Post-prostatectomy erectile changes
Peyronie’s disease
Performance enhancement in men with normal function
What to expect

  • Sessions take approximately 15–20 minutes and are generally painless
  • A gel is applied to the treatment area; the device is guided across penile tissue
  • Typical protocol: 6–12 sessions, usually once per week
  • Many patients report improvements within a few weeks of beginning treatment
  • Full results typically develop over 2–3 months
  • Some patients require periodic maintenance treatments
  • Not currently covered by most insurance plans

PRP Therapy for Penile Tissue Regeneration

The P-Shot (Priapus Shot®) uses platelet-rich plasma derived from the patient’s own blood to stimulate cellular regeneration of blood vessels, nerves, and collagen within penile tissue. A small blood draw is processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors responsible for tissue repair; the PRP is then injected into targeted areas of the penis following topical anesthetic and a lidocaine nerve block for comfort.

Because the treatment uses the patient’s own biological material, there is no risk of allergic reaction. Learn2Renew has offered the P-Shot since 2014 — making Dr. Croland one of the most experienced P-Shot providers in the Charlotte region.

Reported benefits

Improved erectile function and firmness
Enhanced sensitivity and sexual pleasure
Works synergistically with oral ED medications
Improved penile skin quality and texture
Increased girth and length with pump protocol
May help reduce Peyronie’s disease symptoms
What to expect

  • Topical numbing cream applied, followed by a lidocaine nerve block
  • Blood drawn from the arm and processed in a centrifuge to isolate PRP
  • PRP injected into targeted tissue using a fine needle
  • Procedure takes approximately 30–45 minutes
  • Minimal downtime — most patients resume normal activity within 24–48 hours
  • Results develop gradually over 4–8 weeks as tissue regeneration progresses

Treatment for Curved or Painful Erections

Peyronie’s disease — characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis causing curved, painful, or shortened erections — affects a significant number of men and is frequently undertreated due to the discomfort many feel discussing it. It is a legitimate medical condition, and one that responds to treatment.

Both shockwave therapy and the P-Shot have demonstrated benefit in Peyronie’s disease. Shockwave therapy helps break down the fibrous plaque responsible for curvature and pain. PRP promotes healing and tissue remodeling in the affected area. Dr. Croland will assess the degree and location of plaque involvement during your consultation and recommend an appropriate treatment protocol.

No Single Treatment Addresses Every Factor

Dr. Croland evaluates each patient’s full clinical picture — vascular health, hormone status, psychological factors, medication effects — and recommends a protocol accordingly. For many patients the most effective approach combines multiple complementary treatments:

Testosterone Optimization

When low testosterone is contributing to ED, addressing hormonal status is a prerequisite to effective sexual wellness treatment.

RenewWave Shockwave

Addresses the vascular pathology underlying most cases of physical ED — micro-plaque, poor blood flow, and endothelial dysfunction.

P-Shot PRP

Supports tissue regeneration and neovascularization through growth factor delivery — complementary to and synergistic with shockwave therapy.

A Confidential Conversation With a Physician Who Takes This Seriously

Sexual health is not a topic that gets adequate attention in most primary care settings. Dr. Croland approaches men’s sexual wellness with the same clinical depth and directness he brings to every other aspect of his practice — no judgment, no dismissal, and no prescription handed over without understanding the full picture. Consultations are private and held at both our Ballantyne and Matthews locations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get shockwave therapy for ED in Charlotte NC?

Learn2Renew offers RenewWave shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction at locations in Ballantyne/Charlotte and Matthews, NC. Dr. David Croland, DO, uses both focused (Storz Duolith) and radial (Zimmer Enpuls) shockwave technology and personally performs all treatments.

What is the P-Shot and how does it work?

The P-Shot (Priapus Shot®) uses platelet-rich plasma derived from the patient’s own blood to stimulate regeneration of blood vessels, nerves, and collagen in penile tissue. It is injected following topical anesthetic and a nerve block for comfort. Learn2Renew has offered the P-Shot since 2014, making Dr. Croland one of the most experienced providers in Charlotte.

What is the difference between focused and radial shockwave therapy for ED?

Focused shockwave therapy (Storz Duolith) concentrates energy precisely in deeper penile tissue for maximum angiogenic effect. Radial shockwave (Zimmer Enpuls) delivers energy across a broader area and is effective for surface and mid-depth vascular remodeling. Dr. Croland uses both and tailors their use to each patient’s anatomy and pathology.

How many shockwave therapy sessions are needed?

A typical protocol involves 6–12 sessions, usually once per week. Many patients report improvements within a few weeks of beginning treatment, with full results developing over 2–3 months. Some patients benefit from periodic maintenance treatments to sustain benefits.

Can shockwave therapy and the P-Shot be combined?

Yes — and they frequently are at Learn2Renew. Shockwave therapy addresses the vascular component of ED while PRP supports tissue regeneration and neovascularization. Combined protocols typically produce greater results than either treatment in isolation.

Can shockwave therapy treat Peyronie’s disease?

Yes. Both shockwave therapy and the P-Shot have demonstrated benefit in Peyronie’s disease. Shockwave helps break down the fibrous plaque causing curvature and pain; PRP promotes tissue healing and remodeling. Dr. Croland will assess the degree and location of plaque involvement during your consultation.

Is shockwave therapy for ED covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans do not currently cover shockwave therapy for ED as it is considered an elective procedure. Pricing and payment options are discussed during your consultation at our Charlotte or Matthews location.

Does a doctor perform these treatments at Learn2Renew?

Yes. All RenewWave shockwave therapy and P-Shot procedures at Learn2Renew are personally performed by Dr. David Croland, DO, at our Charlotte and Matthews, NC locations.
